"Up in the Air" is about a man who fires people for a living. It’s funny because the act of firing someone seems to be his only means of inter-personal communication. He’s so disconnected from the real world and real relationships. It’s really quite sad. He’s just a lonely man…a lonely, sexy man…but I digress. His quirky boss (Jason Bateman) decides he needs a friend/thorn in his ass, aka new college grad Natalie.
I know Natalie. You know Natalie. Natalie is that one girl in your group of friends who’s an overachiever. She has a five-year plan that involves a six-figure salary, a husband, kids, and a gold retriever before she’s 30 years old. She’s the girl who groups her folded socks and underwear by color. She’s the girl who’s got it all figured out…or at least think she does. It was wonderful to watch her unfold from a statistic into a human being on screen. Who knew these “Twilight” kids were such great actors?
I know a lot of us are in a time of transition in our lives. Whether it’s from the single life to finding love for the first time or starting a new career out of college or making your unique mark in your company, “Up in the Air” is for you. The characters are “in flight” just like you and me. Whether you’ve got it all together or just think you do, you’ll find someone or something to relate to when you watch this movie.
“Up in the Air” is truly OMG good. It’s funny, heart-breaking, and heart-warming. Oh and when George Clooney talks about the Mile High club, that’s pretty awesome too!
